I have wasted a rather spectacular amount of time this week - Thursday was meant to be Figure Out My Life day, but apparently you have to make appointments far in advance to talk to the Faculty, so I'm going back next Friday; I had a meeting with the Faculty of Engineering for EWB, and spent the rest of the afternoon... well, I don't really remember. Friday I spent most of the day on campus even though there were no classes, giving presentations for EWB. After all my scrambling to get French presenters, only two people came to the French presentation, and only four to the English presentation. :( It's nobody's fault, but it's still kind of disappointing.

What was cool about the presentation was that it was in a legit classroom/auditorium in the Engineering building, which is all new and fancy and big. I was wearing clicky-boots, and using a GIANT-ASS SCREEN and a remote, and a prof gave me a microphone to wear, one of the ones you clip on. I didn't end up using it because I didn't need to (and it's sort of hard to have it hanging off a dress, lol), but it was really cool. I felt all *~grown-up~* and *~professorial~* and *~authoritative~* in such a big classrom where my boots made echoing noises and... well, it was a cool feeling XDD

Last night it was Coyote's birthday, so we all headed over to his house and then downtown. I was kind of 'eh' on the bar (other than them playing 'Single Ladies' and Catya dragging me to the bar and us ROCKING THE F*** OUT) until the live band came out, and then it was EPIC. The band was really great; since it was for a dance floor, they were playing songs everyone knew, but AWESOME songs (Semi-Charmed Life, MGMT, The Fratellis). Catya manoeuvred us to stand in front of this GIANT FAN so our hair was blowing everywhere and we knew ALL THE WORDS and Stefan was so excited to hear every single song. Oh it was epic.

Today I slept in, rushed to campus in order to get to GoENG Girl, but as soon as I got there, Polly said 'I hope you brought your homework.' It was DEAD, apparently the big rush of people was in the morning and they were all in workshops so we were just chilling out. I was kind of angry that they hadn't let me know and just told me not to bother coming in, especially as I don't exactly live close to campus. Not to be helped, and it was nice to see Polly, but it was kind of a waste of time. I wasted more time at the library not writing my essay, and then at the grocery store. It's 5:30 and I haven't even started the exercise for Research Methods that's due on Monday, or the Politics paper that's due on Tuesday. I've been lazy and apathetic towards assignments before, but these ones are just... they're USELESS ASSIGNMENTS. The essay is just 'take two theories from the textbook and explain them to me.' Basically it's an exercise in 'how well can you use a thesaurus to rewrite the textbook?' And the RM one is all about variables and constants, shit I learned about in GRADE FREAKING SEVEN. Any coincidence that the same prof is teaching both courses, and they both suck? I am so over this semester, and I don't like that feeling. At ALL :(

I was expressing my frustration at the textbook (the chapter on Constructivism, which I'm guessing is new, is FULL of typos and the author keeps using 'I' randomly and not backing himself up and it's annoying and unprofessional at the same time) with one of the new members of EWB, who did his first degree in English and PoliSci.

NEWB: Was it written by Collins? I bet it was. If you ever hear anyone complaining about a PoliSci text, Collins wrote it.

I need to get over my ugh-school mood ASAP or I'm going to end up losing my scholarship or losing resolve altogether - I guess I've gotten used to enjoying what I study, and being substantially busier this year than last is meaning that I haven't done a single reading in... I'd say over two weeks now :/ SELF, GET OVER YOURSELF. LOVE, SELF.
---------------
I learned today from The World Without Us that on the DMZ between North and South Korea, 'large loudspeakers atop South Korea's positions have blasted regular insults, military anthems, and even strident themes like the William Tell Overture across the divide.'

WHAT?! LOL. That's amazing. Like two kids in the backseat of the car trying to piss each other off by humming loudly or putting their fingers slightly on the others' "side." LOL X A MILLION. Way to stay classy, S Korea. I like it.
---------------
I am ridiculously excited for Toy Story 3. Honestly, I hate sequels but those movies are so good and just <33333 I can't believe I was only 9 years old when the last one came out, especially since I can remember it so well.
I really want to see The Men Who Stare At Goats, lol. History geekiness+comedy+George Clooney? YES??!
Also, even though I never read Where The Wild Things Are, every review and preview and glimpse I've gotten of it is just making me need to see it more.

A lot of things went on today (homework was not one of them). I just got back from this event PIDSSA had called 'The Last Lecture Series,' where a bunch of really great professors are asked to give the lecture they would give if it was the last one they could ever give to their students. Unfortunately, one of the professors couldn't make it and the other one was in the hospital, so it was just the one. It was good, but not as good as I was expecting it to be. He was funny, though - pulled out this bicycle helmet covered in tin foil with a rod sticking in front with a camera on it and called it 'MyTube.' It was mostly about how the world is kind of in a mess and it needs to be fixed. "I'm gonna go all Al Gore on your ass," he said when he started with the statistics.

Before that was a meeting for Social Theatre, which sounds SO COOL. I mean, two of my favourite things: social activism, and theatre, TOGETHER. It's a three-night thing in March, and the theme is 'Seven Deadly Sins.' Basically people write plays and perform them. And stuff. Cool. Apparently the Pride Centre is going to do the play about the sin of Pride, lol.

Today in Essay-Writing class, my professor used the word 'truthiness' to prove a point. He said it and people were so confused, like 'that's not a word,' and he asked for a definition and I gave it, it was so awesome. I enjoyed that.

I so need to be healthier. Normally I would consider myself a very healthy person, but I'm not being active enough and I'm eating too much candy. Honestly, I ate two Twix bars and half a bag of those sour watermelon things yesterday, and today I barely left my room. I HAVE a free gym membership, and I was using it earlier this year, but I've sort of let myself fall by the wayside and I'm not happy about it. I've never been a "OMGIneedtoloseweight" person and I never want to be, but I'm not happy with how I'm feeling. So that's got to change.

It's List Time! My new...
...celebrity crush: Anderson Cooper. He did some 'save the planet' DVD with Jeff Corwin, which brings to cool factor, plus he has a book about his journalism adventures in high-conflict places, which brings the badass.
...mission: be healthier. I need to cut the crap a little bit and just make more of an effort to do hard-core workouts - I do little things, but I need to step it up a notch. I just think it'll improve my sense of well-being, which is already pretty high.
...way to de-stress: doing the dishes. It's totally calming, I enjoy it. I bring my iPod dock into the kitchen and just do the dishes. It's the perfect opportunity to listen to my music and be warm and just do something methodically. Also it's not gross when I do it because I thoroughly rinse everything first, and THEN I wash it.
...hobby: musicals. I've made a whole playlist and I'm enjoying it. I wish I could sing better; I would SO love to be in musicals.
...favourite colour: purple. Just because I think with my green eyes and red hair it looks cool. Not to worry, I have not lost my love for red, but I'm really feeling purple right now.
...favourite website: Wikiality. I read the articles on Jo(h)n Stewart, Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Stephen Harper, and Canada, and I just could not contain my glee. SO funny.

Miriam Makeba died today. Since she is the artist of one of my favourite tracks on my favourite cd from the toy store, I thought I'd mention that this makes me sad. If you want to take a listen, here's Pata Pata 2000, a very cool song.

My darling Miranda made a video about her NaNoWriMo adventures, which also added sufficiently to my glee factor. SO, SO GOOD. I love that I am friends with this person.

I have been returned to my house, but my father left for the Big T.O. and the rest of my family hasn't yet come down from the cottage. The food situation? Pretty depressing. Lots of cereal, but no milk. Some eggs, but no cheese. Lots of jam and nutella, but no bread. I really wanted nachos for lunch, but that's where the cheese gets me again. I really wanted an omelette, or something to do with eggs, but I don't want to just eat a random EGG. I want to poach it and put it on bread or something, or smother it with cheese. Maybe I'll look for feta and some vegetables later - I think there's asparagus in the garden.

REASONS I LOVE ONTARIO IN THE SUMMER:
-Strawberries
-Watermelons
-Peaches (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) I frackin' love peaches
-Corn on the cob
-Blueberries
-Blackberries
-Asparagus

And, in accordance with the Writer's Block for today, the foods I could not live without are:
-Pancakes
-Blueberries
-Seafood
-Pad Thai

This is pretty accurate - I'm guessing that 'unitarian universalism' is like the United Church, and I'm definately with the Baha'i and Sikhism. However, I'm somewhat ashamed that Scientology is above Islam. Whaaaaat? Thanks to [info]peaceful for the test, which you can take here. I can hardly believe it. Dark Bunny and I are going to see Knocked Up together. I mentioned how I didn't have any firends who liked to watch 'those kind of movies' and she said "Hey! Want to go with me?" We're still in the process of organising it, but she said she'd drive me home afterwards.

We had lots to do today. Dark Bunny's green t-shirt had a hole in it that I watched the whole day but didn't mention. We moved around shelves and quibbled about hook sizes. Dark Bunny told me I was "off the clock". She told me I had some good ideas when we moved the seasonal stuff.

Dark Bunny and I read a story on MSN news about a huge pig that was shot. She didn't read a story entitled 'Twins born to different mothers' because she said it would be too complicated. She installed and un-installed several Applications on Facebook. She said the Trakstor one was creepy, but that she liked looking at people's profiles without them knowing. Dark Bunny's mom bought herself a pair of $200 jeans the other day, and Dark Bunny was saying, "ra ra ra, and then she noticed my laptop had scratches and was all ra ra ra and why don't you buy yourself a laptop cover and ra ra ra. So I said I didn't have any money and she said neither did she, ra ra ra." I learned that Dark Bunny owes Visa.

When I left I was asked to pray for her to be eating spaghetti in a few hours. She said she would change the music but not now. Not yet.

Bloody Wonderful

I watched 'Amélie' last night. Phwoar. What a brilliantly good movie. Apparently it is suppsed to be Librans' favourite movie, so I wonder if [info]darkseahorse liked it as well. Judging from the laughing, she did. Unfortunately, it was the unsexed (censored) version - I suppose I must wait to see that with [info]jessica_june if we ever do find a copy.

You pick up on things the second time 'round. I want to own that movie, because the movie, truth be told, already rather owns me. Also, I have a picture of Darling Weenie pulling a 'Child Amélie' with raspberries on her fingers. Must ask her if I can use the photo to make icon, since I don't think it's that great an idea that [info]jessica_june and I have all the same icons. Mostly just 'cause I keep stealing hers, but I can't help it - they are wonderful.

You know what else is wonderful? SHOEBOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because there is a long part 25 and it is amazing (zzz boy!porn only not really...)  Now if I could just get my hands on a copy of Pie-ix my life in general would be pretty spifftastic. I've got unlimited supplies of grape juice, new clothes from AO, a high speed internet connection for another week, shoebox, Alfred Hitchcock... I ask you, what else could anyone need or want?

What is wrong with Dark Bunny's mom?

Don't you just love it when parental-units get guilty? I mean, after [info]jessica_june left for work, I was at the Bandshell for another hour-and-a-half. Apparently my mater-unit was on the internet, and then mowing the lawn, and then... etc. So she picked me up and we went and got Chinese, since my pater-unit and one sibling-unit are away. We also rented movies.

Score!  But tonight I have to go to my Nana-and-Papa unit's, because my OTHER sibling-unit has a football game. *sighs* It's so boring there. Hopefully we can rent 'Water' or 'Crash' or something, since we couldn't last night (Yaden wouldn't like them, OF COURSE).

Top Five Worst Movies of All Time:

  1. Nanny McPhee. OK. Do you know what it feels like to be embarassed for a movie? Watch this one. It's so horrible. The only good parts are the Evangeline chick (who is actually still very corny) and once Emma Thompson looses the tooth. Good Lord.
  2. Dark Horse. Starring people with very bad hairdos. The girl rolls down a grassy slope and is almost paralyzed. The horse falls off a CLIFF and breaks his leg. After which he is run over by a mad tractor, only to get up and start gallopping around the field.
  3. Cheaper by the Dozen (I or II). Ugh. Stop already. We don't need to make more horribly bad OOPS, 'nother kid! jokes or see Carmen Electra look like a slut. Tom Welling, how could you? Plus, Hilary Duff totally needs a new makeup person, or something.
  4. Brother Bear. Maybe not belonging on the worst of all time, but seriously, can Disney please make something good?
  5. Sequels. Shrek 2 exempt. Everyone else screwed.

"Here comes the sun, it's all right (dumdumdumdumdumdum da da da da da da!)" --The Beatles (those four nancies Evans likes)
---------------------

Yes, the sun has come out again. As I sit, the ice is off the lake, I can see the grass and I don't have to worry about losing toes to frostbite.

IT'S ABOUT BLOODY TIME.

Meanwhile, back at the Ranch, so it's Holocaust Week (ooohm, er) in CHC2D, Mrs Vesta's class. We've started The Pianist, which doesn't really look all that promising (and really, what could measure up to Vita e Bella?? I ask you) even though Adrian-my-nose-is-big-sensitive-touchy-feely-writer-artist-musician-KINGKONG!!-rarr-look-at-my-sad-face is in it. Whatever. I just don't want to miss Eva Olsson.

So it's bound to be a rather trying week as 'tis, but at least our weather report was done, and done well (if I do say so myself, Bob). You must have been the warmest person there. Global Warming, pfaahgh! (I don't mean that). Save the polar bears. Seahorse, are you coming to the Cool Aid Concert on Thurs??

Things I like
*bird lady*
[info]mcollinknight

I have come up with a new list of Things I Like:

  • High Speed Internet - I have dial-up at home, and it's like this: Click on something. Make a sandwich. Type in a site address. Play the piano. Click an icon. Walk the dog etc. etc.
  • Ballet. Even though the guys wear tights and the girls smoke coke and everything is focused on body image, I love it. I was nearly weeping at the sheer beauty last night.
  • Cities. Biiiiiiig cities. Like the big T.O.
  • I already knew I like this one, but Thai Food.
  • Outdoor markets. It's like... going back to beginnings, is what it's like. Everyone's the same and different and one person and hundreds of people and it's wonderful and crazy and gross and a huge assault on your senses.
  • Art Galleries. Like the AGO, with Arthur Lismer and Catherine the Great and other things like that.
  • Stuart Maclean. That guy's my homeboy.
